London - Guitar Shop and Harrods

23/02/15

Strange day.
Dropped Ollie's guitar into 'Hank's Guitar Shop'(apparently London's most famous Guitar shop? - actually all a bit too cool on Denmark St, a street full of mostly guitar stores)) to be restrung as left-handed and then decided to brave visiting 'Harrods' via Piccadilly Circus.

An angry Lachlan at 'Piccadilly Circus'

Not quite sure what I really made of our trip to Harrods. Quite insightful into the extremes of wealth and consumerism. I think the kids were a bit overstimulated by it. The 139,000GBP gaming station seemed pretty excessive. The demonstrations in the kids toy area was impressive as always(quite 'Hamleys' like) - almost worth the trip? Came away with the minimum - books(because we are about to visit 'non-English' territory) and a couple of games.
But you have to admit the shop is beautiful, so opulent, bourgeois and extreme (I ponder what people do with these objects - rooms and rooms full of things I see nowhere else - mostly devoid of customers except for a few extremely well attired ones and with the supervision of well manicured staff who must be very bored).
Well it is very peaceful in these departments until you enter the food courts, which are frantic. They are amazing, fantastic. This is where I can purchase something and I do - not much, just chocolate etc(as always).
